The Giants officially pulled the plug on their reclamation project at linebacker on Sunday, releasing Aaron Curry as part of their first round of cuts. The Giants had signed Curry, the fourth overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, in the spring, hoping he might emerge as the playmaker that their linebacking corps has lacked for the past few seasons. But Curry made few – if any – game-changing plays in training camp, he made just two tackles in three preseason games. By last week, he'd lost his second-team linebacker spot to Kyle Bosworth, the nephew of former NFL bad-boy linebacker Brian Bosworth. The Giants also cut fullback Ben Guidugli, receivers Brandon Collins and Terrence Sinkfield, tight ends Jamie Childers and Chase Clement, offensive linemen Michael Jasper and Austin Holtz, linebackers Jake Muasau and Etienne Sabino, defensive tackle Frank Okam, and defensive backs Laron Scott, Junior Mertile and Alonzo Tweedy.
