Giants QB Sage Rosenfels Says He'll Be "Studying His Tail Off"

  1. Rhett Bomar is out, Sage Rosenfels is in and right now he’s the only other quarterback besides Eli Manning on the roster. In other words, the 32-year-old Rosenfels better pick up the Giants’ offense fast. “I’m going to be spending a lot of time in that hotel room studying my tail off,†Rosenfels said today in a statement released by the Giants. The Giants obviously believe he can since they informed Bomar earlier today that he has been cut, according to an NFL source. Though the Giants may still add Bomar to the practice squad if he clears waivers tomorrow, Rosenfels is the only backup quarterback on the active roster. That means if something happens to Manning, Rosenfels will have to run an offense he’s never seen before today. “He’s had different offenses to learn in his career,†Tom Coughlin said in the team’s statement. “It is a foreign language. However, he had a numbering system before similar to ours. He will also have a package of plays he’ll be able to perform with. I’ve had success in the past doing that with quarterbacks. They come in and learn just exactly what you want them to learn first and foremost. You can’t go back to Day 1. But you have to build them a basic understanding and foundation, which is the way in which communicate. “Beyond that, you’re only going to teach him the plays that are in that week’s game plan.â€

We just went from one of the worst backup situations in the league to one of the best in my opinion.

Great pickup for the Giants. I really thought he'd be the starter at Minnesota before Farve enterred the picture. He's not flashy, but very consistent whenever he's in the game. I really think he'd be a better starting QB, then some in the NFL right now.

Interesting that the Giants have been aggressive in obtaining a top quality backup, considering that usually teams with a so called franchise QB are usually more than happy to save that money towards someone who is more likely to contribute.

Makes one wonder if they are concerned with Eli's play or durability.

Well, seeing as he's never missed a game and he had a career year last year while progressing ever year I doubt that play or durability is and issue. Any smart team should hold a decent backup, the 1990 Giants proved why. With Sorgi going down and Bomar playing just ok, they needed to do something to solidify the position. You never know when your starter will miss a few games. A decent backup could be the difference between playoffs or not.

Concerned with Eli's durability or play? Come on...

After Sorgi went down, why wouldn't they try to get an experienced back up, the best one they could? It's football, crap happens. If they are in the middle of a title run and the "injury proned" Eli goes down...what are they going to go with? Rhett Bomar? Please...

    Great move by New York.
