Tom Coughlin asked if rookie defensive end Damontre Moore, who had a superlative preseason debut against Pittsburgh before injuring his shoulder, might be the cure for his ailing pass rush.

“That’s a novel thought,†he said sarcastically. “Whoever is on our team is going to be in that position. Let’s have a good week of practice there. Let’s make sure the kid is really ready to go and then let’s see what we can do about that.â€

Moore, a third-round pick out of Texas A&M, was a sack king in college. He tallied 26.5 in three seasons as a linebacker/defensive end.

In his first NFL game, he had one sack, several quarterback pressures, four tackles and a blocked punt while disrupting the Steelers short passing game.

Moore could get a larger role this week.

“Honestly, I do,†he said when asked if he could help spark the pass rush. “I’m just going to go in there and whenever my time comes, I’m going to make sure I’m ready so I can get it my all and leave it all out there on the field.â€
