Gov. Tim Pawlenty Says Vikings Stadium Funding Won't Be On The Budget Plan

  1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty said Tuesday funding for a new Minnesota Vikings stadium will not be part of a supplemental state budget he is expected to release within days. A stadium bill was not expected to be included, and Pawlenty instead tossed the ball back to Democratic-Farmer-Labor leaders in the legislature, suggesting they propose their own ideas for funding a new home for the team, whose current lease expires in 2011. "They could actually have a creative thought on their own, where they initiate something," Pawlenty said. The governor has thrown around a few ideas, including using lottery proceeds to pay for the stadium but nothing so far has developed into a plan to move forward. "We don't have a proposal," he said during a Capitol meeting with reporters.
