PHILADELPHIA — A prominent Philadelphia sportswriter abruptly retired Tuesday as three women and one man accused him of sexually molesting them when they were children in the 1970s, according to an investigation by The Philadelphia Inquirer. Jesus Christ. I don't even know what to say anymore. Maybe we should just start assuming that everyone we know is a pedophile and never let our kids out of our sight. This is getting absolutely ridiculous. And a little scary.
I've never liked Conlin because I think he's an arrogant douche, though I did respect his writing, but I never would have wanted to hear anything like this about him. Stories like this are extremely scary to hear.
The thing is people get away with this and usually when they get caught its a short prison term. I am on board with the make em eat their nuts sentence.
I find all of these accusations a bit odd in timing. Maybe that's just because I'm a cynic. The world is a scary place but not just because of alleged sickos like this guy. It's a scary place because people who see others coming forward with accusations such as this and filing cases in civil court to get money follow suit for the sole purpose of making a buck. That's not to say this guy didn't do it but why after 40 years are people just now conveniently coming forward?
i understand the questions on these situations, especially like this from so long ago but you have parents of the alledged victims saying they were told but didnt go to the authorities back then. plus while this guy probably has some moderate wealth built up i doubt there's a pot of gold waiting to be paid out in civil court.
Thats what I am thinking, the guy probably isn't rich so its not for the money and there are a bunch of people involved in this case. I am inclined to believe it.
I don't like that all of these child abuse accusations and crap are coming out 5-6 months after I have a kid. Great timing, world.
Was never a fan. Respected his writing but never a fan of him on any of the CSN shows or him in person.
