You know what's funny about ECW? It sure didn't age well. But too bad you won't give NJPW a shot, it's really about as good a run as a promotion has had in history. They got white hot early last year and haven't looked back. This is how they did in the Wrestling Observer's year-end awards LAST year: WRESTLER OF THE YEAR (Overall) 1. Hiroshi Tanahashi 2. C.M. I'll be honest that I have a tough time getting into the Japanese stuff, but I have been following Prince Devitt, and his heel stuff has been class with Bullet Club. In whole NJPW does a great job with the foreign talent and don't bog them down with stupid stereotypical gimmicks like the American Promotions do. Heck, they managed to make Harry Smith and Lance Hoyt seem interesting!
Yeah, they highlight the 'gaijin' over there. Harry Smith has a perfect gimmick going for him and he is an impressive big man who can move and work. Prince Devitt though is white hot right now and I bet he will be getting in the title picture soon. Word is NJPW is starting to notice the western fans and are looking at english commentary. I really hope this happens, it would open the floodgates here.
last time i watched japanese wrestling, they made ecw look like catholic school girls! setting a table on fire and slamming somebody on it,beating the crap out of one another with bats with nails through them.i imagine when mick foley or terry funk had a wet dream as boys,it looked like japanese wrestling!
That was FMV back in the day, they were big into death-matches. NJPW is about as far away from that as possible. It's treated as 100% legit. It's old school rules in a foreign language.
