The Cardinals have gone year to year with Dansby for two seasons, placing the franchise tag on him in 2008 and 2009. A rule instituted in 2006 requires that a third consecutive franchise tag be the highest tag number, so the Cardinals were forced to set Dansby free to chase the market.
