The Jacksonville Jaguars are "preliminarily" interested in selecting West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No.2 overall pick in the April draft according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.

The Jags' reported interest seems to match to the rising interest Smith overall in the NFL as the Oakland Raiders are also said to be considering him at No.3. Jaguars.com's John Oehser previously said he wouldn't rule out the Jags taking Smith at No. 2, but this is the first time anyone has hinted at genuine interest. It is possible that the Jaguars are just trying to create a market so that they can trade the pick but no team has a more compelling need for a new signal caller given the failings of incumbent starter Blaine Gabbert. Geno Smith is not as highly regarded as the top-rated QBs of the 2012 draft but he could probably beat out Gabbert immediately if the Jaguars do pull the trigger.

well, with the jags, eagles, and raiders in the top 5 and all possibly interested in drafting a QB, if a team genuinely wants geno, they may need to trade with k.c. for the #1 pick to ensure they get him.

doesn't really matter if geno is nothing more than ryan tannehill. QB's are so important, if Geno is genuinely the best QB in the draft, someone will draft him high.
