Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said John Peyton has already given incoming mayor Alvin Brown a transition statement about needed improvements at EverBank Field. "The mayor recognizes the need to keep this building competitive with the newer stadiums coming on line," Weaver said. The city pays for the improvements while the Jaguars pay rent — Weaver said their rent fee is in the top seven or eight in the league — and the cost of all these items will have to be negotiated with the city, depending on the bids received for the work. At the same time, the Jaguars and the city are still trying to settle more than $500,000 in disputed unpaid stadium bills that are up to three years old. Weaver said he has had a good relationship with all the mayors from the time the Jaguars were awarded an expansion NFL franchise in 1993 and he expects that to continue with Brown. "I really don't know Alvin well, but I think Alvin is going to be a good mayor," Weaver said. "He understands the importance of being a city that has an NFL franchise. And he brings some things nobody else can in terms of bringing this community together."
