It is often said that those who do not understand their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. Case in point: speaking after the first day of OTAs at the Jacksonville Jaguar training complex, suspended wide receiver Justin Blackmon was directed asked by the media if he had a substance abuse problem. "No, I would say I don't" Blackmon answered according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

Blackmon went on to state, "Out of this whole thing one of the main things I would say that I had a problem with was just making a poor decision, making a selfish decision at that and not thinking about the long-term of it and just thinking about at the time. If you want to ask if I have a problem? I have a problem with making a poor decision.â€￾

No one is questioning Blackmon's poor decision-making, but his pattern of making those poor decisions under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances is both undeniable and troubling. Blackmon has been charged with DUI twice since 2010 and faces a four-game suspension for substance-abuse violations that are not related to either arrest. Another "poor decision" like these could end his career, result in a year-long suspension from the game he loves, and/or result in hurting innocent people who should not have to pay for the fact that he seemingly just doesn't get it, the first step in recovery from subtance abuse is admitting you have a problem, clearly Blackmon has not even dealt with that hurdle.
