Personally I love the kid, gets banged around all season, basically killed, yet got up over and over to play. I love that in him and to be honest, every time that line has blocked for him, he's done great, not saying he hasn't made mistakes either. Now there's a good chance he'll finally have a line.
I honestly think Allen and Shanny are just talking him up and been positive so they don't kill any trade value if he becomes a RFA. I just think the kid is average, he is crap under pressure, holds the ball too long and is useless in clutch situations. In 51 starts he's never led a come from behind win. Deal him for a pick if possible from a RFA tender, and spend #4 on Clausen or Bradford. Start again.....
Campbell has gotten better every season since he's been in the NFL. The only other consistency with that is the line getting worse each season. I'd like to see what he can do behind a line that can actually block. Yeah he holds on to the ball sometimes too long, but most of the time this season he didn't have a chance to do anything. You had Rabech in his face, Heyer letting people run around him, etc. He's a little bit above average IMO, but he can win the big one with us, I have no doubt about that.
washingtonpost.com The reporter who knows Shanny best thinks he'll be back. I know the OL was a mess but he still fails in the clutch every time, hence why when you say you have no doubt he can win the big one with us I think to myself can he win the big one for us? The answer from me is a big fat no I'm afraid as he has failed in the clutch every time thus far. If Shanny brings him back then I'm happy to accept his judgment but I'd like to see him challenged for the job because no player should be afraid of competition and it should improve him.
I don't see us winning anything next year regardless who is at QB so i'm happy to have him back for the year as it allows us to focus on the line and possibly draft a QB for the future that can sit for a year and learn.
Campbell can win it for us. Some top plays off the tip of my head that he's won us: 2006 - 3rd and 8 while being Blitzed got it to Cooley for a TD with 4min left in the 4th. 2008 - At the line Campbell changed the play against the Saints, bomb to Moss which gave us the lead / win. 2009 - Bomb to Moss against the Bucs Now I'm not saying he's a Tom Brady or someone to that measure, but he can do it. He's only getting better, I'd hate to see us lose him and have him go else ware and do work like many of the players we've helped build and let go.
In 4 seasons of starting that's all you have for him? Dude....... Name me a time he's pulled out a win in the last two minutes of a game when trailing? I'll handle losing him if by making him a RFA in an uncapped year they can get some compensation for him.
Well hate to say it, but within the last couple of seasons, if we were trailing in the last two minutes, it was by a score of where we couldn't come back, especially this past season. We're there some games, yes definitely, Eagles game in Philly this year is the only one I can think of from this past season. However he's proven already when the line does a decent job blocking (first 8 games in 2008), he can make defenses pay for it big time, whether its for the simple first down pickup or whether its the deep ball. Hell even with the line being a freaking joke this season he still managed to do better this year than he has in any other season. That only means one thing, he's getting better. Why get rid of a QB who is constantly getting better each season when the line is getting worse? It'd be a stupid mistake. If we get rid of Campbell, I will lose all hope in this organization and that says a lot considering everything has been done perfectly as of right now. If we get rid of Campbell, I will put down any amount of money you want that with another team with a decent line he continues to develop into a good QB.
I'm with HTTR on this. Campbell is by far the best QB you can get for next season. In addition to the line being atrocious, his completion percentage, TDs and yards have increased every year as a starter. He is slightly above average for an overall QB imo. Meaning, if he had a quality team around him, then he can be a positive force for you. If they invested in Campbell like other teams invest in their QB's, then he would look even better. I hope he can learn the new system quickly b/c I'd like for his toughness to not be for nothing. Now, I hope that you all do none of that and just screw it all up.
There's no sense in going QB in the draft when we don't need one. We need to go RB for a first round then the rest for the line.
Campbell is okay... But theres room for improvement at this position. The question Mike and Dan should be asking themselves or eachother is, is there a franchise Quarterback in this draft, free agency, or through trade that can win games for us for the next 10 seasons or so? thats really all it's about and the only question that needs to be asked.
What happened to Brennan.........wasnt he god as recently as this preseason. I know he got hurt, But I mean he is Colt Motherfreaking Brennan
Well actually he looked great his first preseason with us, this second round he didn't look so hot. Then of course he messed his hip and acl up. At least that's what I recall it being. I'm willing to give him a try ONLY if Campbell doesn't succeed under a decent offensive line.
