Longtime Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson will be inducted into the team’s ring of honor during their Sept. 8 season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Lions president Tom Lewand said at Hanson’s retirement news conference in April that Hanson would become the 14th member of the “Pride of the Lions,†but the team had not revealed any details since. Hanson’s picture appears on the Lions’ Week 1 ticket stub, and the team will honor his 21 years of service with a ceremony before the game. Hanson, 43, retired this year as the Lions’ all-time leader in games played (327), points (2,152) and field goals (495), and the NFL leader in 50-yard makes (52). Once inducted, he’ll be the only player in the Lions’ ring of honor who isn’t in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Source: Detroit Free Press
