Cowboys owner Jerry Jones again refused to clarify the status of coach Wade Phillips on Sunday night. Before the Cowboys defeated the Redskins on Sunday to clinch a playoff berth, Jones reiterated that he wants to see Phillips produce postseason success before guaranteeing him another year in Dallas. Jones told NBC's Football Night in America: "When I look at our team and I look where our needs are and where our input needs to be, I like Wade Phillips' skills there. I just want for him and for our Cowboys fans to culminate in a Super Bowl run. There's nothing in me right now that wants to make a coaching change, that thinks we need to make a coaching change. I want that feeling ratified by some success and we're at the cusp, maybe, of being able to have it." Source: USA Today
Trying to guess a Jones decision is more difficult than trying to predict where lightning is going to strike. My guess: If the 'Boys don't make it to the NFC Championship game, Wade's done. If they do make it to the NFCCG but get blown out, he's done. Anything else and he might make it.
It's really stupid. The Cowboys have been successful this season. If they win a playoff game and put in a solid effort even if they don't make it he SHOULD stay, even though he probably won't.
