All indications are that the Cowboys want to keep Miles Austin. The Jets, however, could make that extremely difficult to do by inserting a "poison pill" provision into their contract offer to Austin. For example, the Jets could offer Austin a long-term deal that would become totally guaranteed if he plays more than five games any season in the state of Texas. Source: Dallas Morning News
If he signed with the jets, then there would be no chance that he would play 5 games in the state of texas, so the jets would never have to worry about the contract being 100% guarantee, but if the cowboys matched the offer with the poison pill and he re-signed with them, then after 5 home games, the entire contract would be 100% guaranteed, which would prevent the cowboys from ever matching the offer to begin with. It was how the vikings signed steve hutchinson away from the seahawks.
I love Austin, but Im kinda surprised if someone offers him a long term contract at this stage in his career He has alot of talent, and has shown he can play the possision in NFL, but has he really shown enough for a team to give him starter money
He played in 6 games at home and 6 games on the road. Maybe the Cowboys play him 4 games at home and 8 on the road...:icon_lol:
yeah, thanks for explaining. that's really hecked up. reeeaaallly dirty. but hey, they gotta do what they gotta do.
Didn't the NFL frown up on the wording of the hutchinson contract ? I remember some statement from an Owners meeting saying something like that and that if it should become common practice, they would change the rules to disallow geography as a contract option.
