The Jets released quarterback Greg McElroy Saturday, ESPN reports. That paves the way for Matt Simms to make the 53-man roster behind Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith at quarterback. McElroy played in two games last season for the Jets behind Sanchez and Tim Tebow. He went 19 for 31 for 214 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Simms went 33 for 44 for 285 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the last preseason game against the Eagles. Source: CBS Sports
