Part of Geno Smith's draft day fall may be explained by his reported inattentiveness and lack of interaction during some of his pre-draft visits. In a report from Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, two different sources said that Smith, selected in the second round by the New York Jets, spent time on his cellphone texting friends and cfreaking out Twitter rather than interacting with coaches on the visit. "All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback." Smith has already fired his agents, Select Sports Group, in the days after the draft, and now this report certainly does not paint the former West Virginia quarterback in a positive light. Before Smith makes any more missteps, he would be wise to look at the career paths of Ryan Leaf, Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell in regards to where getting your NFL career off on the wrong foot leads to.
