Jets quarterback Geno Smith went down with an injury Friday against the Detroit Lions. Smith rolled his ankle to the inside after escaping pressure early in the third quarter. He immediately limped to the sidelines and was being examined by team trainers.

There's no word on what is ailing Smith just yet, but he's got his cleats off and given that it's the first preseason game, it's very unlikely he returns to action. Greg McElroy came in to relieve him and will likely take the lion's share of the remaining snaps in the second half.

    Hopefully it's nothing serious.

I gotta be would be something else if he was out for the year and Rexie never got to use him because he got fired before Smith ever returned to the line up...

Bummer. I am really looking forward to many games with him at the helm.

So far it looks like the starting job is Smith's for the taking, that is if Rex could admit he was wrong about his love child.
