Although Jets veteran running back Thomas Jones rushed for 1,402 and 14 touchdowns last season, both career-highs, he could be the next high-profile runner behind LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook to be given his walking papers this offseason. Jones, who turns 32 in August, is due to earn a $3 million roster bonus next month plus a $2.8 million base salary in 2010 and the Jets want him to renegotiate his contract or they'll likely release him. The club and Jones' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have had discussions and the two sides are expected to talk this week at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Source: Star-Ledger
Exactly he works his butt off, has a great season so he can collect the bonus and now they don't want to pay him the bonus pretty much telling him, thanx for the great season but heck you...
Yeah that is really messed up! I mean the guy showed what a great asset he was to the team and to the run in the playoffs taking pressure off Sanchez and they don't see the numbers his stats speak but instead they simply look at that bonus and the fact that he is gonna be 32. Its a shame that instead of rewarding him for his great season they intent to punish him for his age
Why they wanna ruin a good thing? What they have going now with Greene and Jones has been deadly. So again why ruin a good thing. Plus they'll have Washington back if he doesn't holdout or whatever and they should be even more loaded.
I just don't get it. Thomas Jones is quietly putting together a great career. Yet, he still doesn't get the respect he deserves. What a shame.
