New York Jets wide receiver Mardy Gilyard has been placed on waivers, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. Gilyard has been claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams last Sunday. A fourth-round pick out of the University of Cincinnati in 2010, Gilyard caught six passes for 63 yards and averaged 22.3 yards on 16 kick returns in 11 games for the Rams as a rookie. During the 2011 preseason, Gilyard caught 8 passes for 84 yards and averaged 24.3 yards per kick return, but that was not enough to earn a roster spot this offseason. Though Gilyard is a second-year player, he is not eligible for the practice squad. Source: Mac's Football Blog
