On Monday, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew confirmed that running back Jahvid Best has not been medically cleared to return to the field, but coach Jim Schwartz said in a radio interview on 97.1 that there's still a possibility the running back could return this season. "There's still time," Schwartz said. "We don't have to activate him from PUP yet. There's still a couple more more weeks, then there's a three-week practice window. That time hasn't run out." Best is technically eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list this week. He can return to practice any time in the next 21 days, and if he does, the team will have another 21 days to add him the active roster. As unlikely as it seems, if the Lions truly believed Best was close (which Mayhew's statement suggests they do not), the team could wait three weeks then have him start participating in non-contact portions of practice. Whether Best comes back or not, Schwartz says he doesn't have time to worry about the hypothetical scenario. "Coaches are a little bit different. They don't worry about injuries as much as fans or people in the media. We have 53 guys on the team. It's our job to find the best combination of those guys and find a way get a win no matter who those 53 guys are." Source: MLive.com
