Last year's Pro Bowl resembled more of a touch football game instead of real NFL football, there has been consideration of ditching the game altogether. Jeff Darlington of NFL Network and NFL.com reported that Peyton Manning gave players a pep talk on Tuesday night imploring them to make it a better game. "The past two years, the play in this game has been unacceptable," Manning said. "If it was a walkthrough, your coach would say it was a bad walkthrough. And that's why (the league) could try to cancel this game." NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it clear that the current quality of the game doesn't meet the league's standard, the game will be cancelled. And now Hall of Fame coach John Madden eachoed the same sentiments on SiriusXM NFL radio. "And having said that, I think everyone knows that," Madden said. "I know all the players know it. So, as they were told last night, we're not only playing this for ourselves and right now, we're playing it for all the future players." Source: The Redzone
Excellent. Give the deserving players the title "1st Team All Star" (or something else), a ring, and call it a day.
The problem the Pro Bowl is different than the other sports' all star games. Very rarely do athletes in baseball, hockey, and basketball get injured during an all star game but if say AP makes a quick cut to avoid a tackle in the Pro Bowl and re-injures his knee then he is out for a long time. Injuries are a part of football but what player wants to get hurt after their season is over? I'm in favor of scrapping the game. Get rid of it. I never watch it all anyways.
i don't watch it much either, but a lot of people still do. if the players come out and play like they did last season,it will be done for awhile!
Keep the weekend in Hawaii but do a laid back 2-day skills competition for fun with lots of fan interaction, and no game...or maybe actually MAKE it a no contact flag game. Get some fans on the teams via contests and just have fun.
That's actually a really good idea. That way people can get used to it before they start doing that for real games.
give these spoiled, ultra-rich players a real incentive to win the game. make the players PAY $250k each to their individual regular teams if they lose the game.
That was sand volleyball or something wasnt it? I seem to recall sand being involved, but yeah you have a point.
Yup. Here's another example of "Crap happens". Celebrating a relatively meaningless field goal to break a 0-0 tie in the first half: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK81Ej5hm8s]Bill Gramatica Celebration Fail - YouTube[/ame]Basically, career over.
