I saw a video a while back, I believe it was the Bears, they were on the goal line, and ran a play out of the wildcat, with Jay Cutler lined up at wide receiver, ran it right up the middle and got stuffed. Jaws said thats a horrible call, you might as well only put 10 men on the field and Gruden replied "I don't know, I thought it was a pretty good call." I'm trying to find the video again to show someone as I thought it was pretty funny. Can anyone help me out? I thought he might not be such a bad coach and people were being hard on him, but he sure does say some stupid things on MNF. Another example was when the Jets and Patriots were playing and Rex challenged the spot after third down, the call stood, and he proceeded to go for it on fourth down. Gruden then said "Why challenge it if you're going to go for it on fourth down anyway?" If the spot was bad, you might not have to go for it, and you might only have to go for an inch vs a yard.
Yet somehow even worse as a commentator. I will give him one thing. He has done the impossible. He has made me miss Kornholer.
They ALL sucked but I would reverse that order. Especially with the petty little cat fighting that's developing between Jaws and Gruden. Gruden will disagree with Jaws just to disagree with him..... pretty sure he has yet to be right when they disagree. Dennis Miller was entertaining for how he just didn't belong there. Kornheiser was entertaining to see just how goobered his babbling could become. Gruden is just not entertaining. Period.
I find Gruden very entertaining. It's rare that he pronounces a name correctly. If you drink every time Gruden says "That Guy," you're in for a good time. Agree, they all blow.
He's got a couple other dopey sayings too...but I can't think of them off the top of my head right now.
