Giants’ PK Josh Brown has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 16.

From the Giants: Brown, an 11-year veteran and first-year Giant, kicked field goals of 41, 52 and 45 yards – the latter an overtime game-winner – Sunday in Detroit, where the Giants defeated the Lions, 23-20.

He is the first kicker in Giants history with three field goals in a game of 40 yards or longer.

The 45-yarder was Brown’s ninth career game-winning field goal (those that gave his team the lead for good in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime). His last such kick was on Dec, 23, 2012, when his 43-yarder with four seconds left gave Cincinnati a 13-10 victory over Pittsburgh.

Brown’s 52-yarder was on his longest attempt of the season. His previous long try and success was a 46-yarder at Philadelphia on Oct. 27. It was Brown’s 30th career field goal of 50 or more yards (on 46 attempts), but just his second in the last four seasons.

The 52-yard field goal was the longest by a Giants kicker since Lawrence Tynes kicked a 53-yarder at Dallas on Oct. 25, 2010. It was the first 50-yarder by a Giant since Tynes kicked a 50-yard field goal vs. Pittsburgh on Nov. 4, 2012.

This season, Brown has made 21 of 23 field goal attempts – including 17 in a row. That is the third-longest active streak behind San Francisco’s Phil Dawson (26) and Dallas’ Dan Bailey (18). Brown has also kicked 29 extra points for 92 points and needs to score eight points in the season finale this week vs. Washington for his eighth career 100-point season.

The Player of the Week Award is Brown’s fifth, and first since Week 8 of the 2009 season, when he played for the S. Louis Rams.

Brown is the first Giants player to win the Special Teams award since David Wilson in Week 14 of the 2012 season and the first kicker since Tynes in Week 3 in 2012.

He is the fourth Giant to be honored this this season. Terrell Thomas (Week 8), Jason Pierre-Paul (Week 11) and Justin Tuck (Week 13) won the Defensive Player of the Week Award.
