The Lakers have hired Mike Brown as their new coach, a source confirmed to SI.comThe deal is for four years and approximately $18 million, with the final year a team option. The move is believed to be driven by Jim Buss, the Lakers' executive vice president of player personnel and son of owner Jerry Buss, whose role was expected to increase with Phil Jackson's departure.

Kobe seemed to have wanted Shaw. I guess after lacking Defense they decided to go that route.

I think this is a pretty good hire. Something tells me that Kobe is easier to coach than LBJ. Mike Brown should be happy.

Why is it a fail? Mike Brown was a quality coach for the Cavs with notoriously weak pieces surrounding LBJ.

I can't say I'm thrilled. Bobby Lashley as our coach. Just something that's going to take time, and I'm going to have to see him prove himself as a good coach/fit for us. I really thought Adleman or Shaw would be our coach.

He's a good defensive coach which the Lakers could use, but on offense all he had was iso with Lebron. BShaw and Rick Adelman were both 100% better choices and the Lakers dropped the ball here. You'll see.

I guess I just feel that a coach who had the best record and took a team to the Finals despite really only having one player should be given some credit. On the Lakers he has more weapons. He's not going to be no Phil Jackson but he's a good coach.

He had a good record with arguably the best player in the league and mvp that year averaging damn near a triple double. Jim Caldwell went 14-2 his first year with the Colts, you credit him more or Peyton Manning? I don't think Caldwell will be the heir apparent to Bill Belichick.

He's inheriting a championship caliber team, and first year coaches with success are usually favorites to win COTY. If he doesn't then I'm laughing.

No I don't think the Lakers are a championship caliber team. They're old, Kobe's old, and Pau is soft. I dont want to say they are going into a rebuilding phase, but I don't think it's a situation where he just steps in and wins. I see them taking a step backwards.

Being old is a big part of it... 2 of the 4 oldest teams are being represented in the NBA Finals this year.

Pau proved he's not soft, he just collapsed mentally for the first time since he's been a laker. We're far from a step back though. If anything an early exit out of the playoffs, rather than getting to the finals and losing, is a good thing for.... such an old team. Means they finally get to rest them old bones, and heal their injuries, especially Bynum... who's missed more games than any "old guy" we have on the team.

then you go through the off season, where Dwight Howard's name is being thrown around. Even if we had to let go of Gasol to get him, that upgrades us on youth, and sheds Pau's soft label. And we have 4 draft picks. Mike Brown, is easily stepping into a winning team. Anyone who thinks that we're going to "decline", doesn't watch too much basketball.

Inculbus I agree completely. The Lakers are easily in the top 4 in the league next year. If they get Howard than they are going to be in the Finals.

I'm way serious, but that's a hilarious pic. lol.

I just don't think they can win another ring with that roster. If they actually get Howard that'll obviously change.
