Ron Bartell began the preseason working with the first team. He'll end it without a job in Detroit, according to the Detroit Free Press. The veteran cornerback was cut Saturday afternoon by the Lions, who are working their way from 75 to 53 players. They were at 63 players as of 2 p.m. Bartell ultimately was squeezed out by the rise of rookie Darius Slay, who surpassed Bartell on the first team two weeks ago, as well as the signing of veteran free agent Rashean Mathis.
