Soon-to-be free agent Cliff Avril was on SiriusXM NFL Radio today, and two things were abundantly clear: He wants to say with the Detroit Lions and he wants to get paid. The defensive end will become a free agent next month, unless the Lions can lock him up first. He's expected to be one of the higher-profile players available and could command more money than the Lions are willing to spend. "I just want to be paid as one of the guys that's helping the team grow," Avril said. "I want to be there. We have a young D-line. But I know it's a business, and you only hit free agency once or twice in your career, so you definitely have to take advantage of it." Asked whether he would give the Lions a hometown discount, Avril didn't hedge. "There's no such thing as a hometown discount in the NFL," he said. "Once you can't play anymore, they're going to let you go, so you definitely have to strike gold when you can. That said, if they and another team present the same thing, I'd definitely stay with the Lions." Source: Detroit Free Press
the lions brought in so many free agents after the 0-16 debacle, they are in worse cap shape than any team in the league. if their cap person in their front office can manage to keep all of their good, young players, it will be very impressive.
i think hed be a better fit ina 34 personally....if the cowboys and lions swapped spencer and avril everyone would win. both from purdue oddly enough
exactly. avril's job is pretty freaking easy playing on the same line as suh and vandenbosch. dude always gets singled up as the rest of his line eats up all the blockers. 95% of the left defensive ends in the NFL would love to have his job .............
