Beat writer Tom Kowalski writes that it seems more likely that, if the Lions are to draft a running back, it will come in the second or third round. Kevin Smith, a third-round pick in 2008, has been the starter the past two years, but he suffered a season-ending knee injury, and it is unlikely he will be ready for the start of training camp. The Lions also picked up free agent Maurice Morris last year and drafted Aaron Brown in the fifth round, but the Lions are looking for an explosive runner with great speed and game-breaking ability.
