The Lions talked about adding a veteran backup because they weren't sure how quickly Stafford would be ready. They didn't want to get into a situation where Daunte Culpepper would start the season and then get hurt and then be forced to go with a raw rookie. The Lions are now very confident that Stafford will be ready for the start of the regular season and beat writer Tom Kowalski thinks he'll be the starter against New Orleans - or very soon afterward. hes a poised QB and hes got some wheels on him, their line isnt that terrible and hes much better than someone like david carr or alex smith when they came out
I really want Daunte to et a chance to start, its win win..If Daunte blows up, they have a trade waiting to happen and Stafford gets more time, if he sucks then he takes hits Stafford doesnt have to while Stafford gets ready, and they have more time to fix a line for when he comes in.
