Mikel Leshoure said he never told anyone he would welcome a trade from the Lions, but given a chance to clear the air Wednesday, the third-year running back didn't close the door on the idea, Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News reports.

Before the Lions' Week 2 game against the Cardinals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Leshoure "would welcome a trade to a team that would rely on him more," according to an anonymous source.

Leshoure was inactive in the Lions’ first two games. Although he was bumped to the active roster in Week 3 with Reggie Bush (knee) out, Leshoure didn't play a single snap behind Joique Bell and rookie Theo Ridrod.

"I had never said (I would welcome a trade), but I'm sure it's just speculation because of my role on the team," Leshoure said. "People were just probably assuming. I didn’t ever reach out to anybody or try to talk to anybody."

However, when asked directly if he'd be open to a trade, Leshoure didn't say no.

"I just want to play," he said. "Like I said before, there's a lot of speculation because I'm not on the field and people just want to know what's going on. I want to play, and that's it."
