Former Detroit Lions cornerbacks Alphonso Smith and Justin Miller were in Allen Park on Wednesday to work out for the team. Both Smith and Miller were let go by the Lions during the final round of roster cuts at the end of August, and neither has been with an NFL team since then.

The reason for the workout is pretty obvious. The Lions are thin depth-wise at cornerback already, and cornerbacks Bill Bentley (shoulder) and Jacob Lacey (concussion) are both dealing with injuries. Should either be ruled out later this week for Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears, it's likely that the Lions will sign Smith or Miller.
