Marshall Faulk Believes Chris Johnson Should Holdout For A New Deal

Discussion in 'Tennessee Titans' started by BigBlueBruiser, May 5, 2010.

  1. Running Back Chris Johnson has been vocal about receiving a new contract from the Titans after his 2,000-yard rushing season. Johnson is due to make $550,000 next season in the third year of a five-year, $12 Million contract that he signed as a rookie in 2008. In the spirit of the topic, former RB Marshall Faulk took Johnson’s side, while ex-NFL team executive Michael Lombardi represented Titans management to discuss the situation Wednesday on NFL Total Access and Faulk, incidentally, believes Johnson should hold out from the Titans to get a new contract.

normally i'm not big on hold outs but i'm a little torn on this one. i would probably be even more supportive of c.j. if he played 1 more year and then wanted a new contract. it's just a little too early.

I get so tired of this crap. Yeah, CJ is the best RB in the league, and rightfully he should be making more. But these are contract signed by the player just a couple years ago, and they all seem to want to go back on them. If they played like crap, could the owners decide to rework their contracts and give them less money? Hell no. Players need to honor their contracts at the very least. Wanting more money is one thing, but holding out for it is ridiculous.

at first i thought he was just being a baby....then i read where Alvin Pearman (who happens to be like 4th on the depth chart) will be making more than him this year......kinda sad really

I think contract talks should wait atleast a year. If CJ can top the numbers or come close to what he did last year in 2010, than it's time to talk.

They could cut them though. I agree with the jist of what you are saying, but don't act like the owners have to hold up their end and the players don't. Not in the NFL. Most of all player contracts can be terminated at any time by the owners.

i was about to post the same thing to P16 when i saw you already did.

that's the thing with nfl contracts. most of the money is NOT guaranteed so players CAN lose a lot of the money in the contract if they don't perform.
