What actions or crimes that a player could potentially committ or has committed would warrant a second chance in your eyes?
100% agree Steve. He was doing this crap over years, but didn't have the balls to admitt it. If there wasn't enough evidence to prove his involvement, he would still deny it.
Playing in the NFL should be considered a privilege. Vick took that privilege and $130 million dollar contract that the Falcons gave him and threw it away. He is guilty of committing a felony and doing it over and over again. He lied to the NFL commissioner, his team's owner, his teammates, the media, and his fans and supporters. Did Vick and his buddies give the 8 dogs they executed this past April a second chance? No. Nor does Michael Vick deserve a second chance.
Not sure who would give him a second chance....Jerry Jones maybe? Al Davis? They are the bad boy owners but I doubt they would do it.....I think any team giving him a second shot would be playing with fire when the protestors came out to their stadiums to express their views....
I totally don't think that he will get a second chance. There will be owners that will consider it in the back of their mind, but they know the kind of damage it will do in media with protesters and such. Much of their own fan base will turn against them. If he was a good QB, things might be different.
He'll get a second chance IMHO. Probably with the Texans. They'll still suck dead dog balls by the time Vick is out of jail and still be looking for a QB. Besides, with their vicinity to Mexico they'll have a lot of dog fighting fans within the community. Either that or the Raiders. Al Davis loves players that are outcasts in the rest of the NFL.
I honestly feel that if there comes out truth to the hanging and drowning of dogs, not a single owner will allow him to be a part of their franchise. We aren't talking about Joe Montana here. It's Vick.
You're probably right. What bugs me so much about this case is people care more about freaking animals than humans. Where's the outrage when Kobe allegedly rapes someone or when Ray Lewis helps cover up a murder or when Pac Man Jones entourages causes a man to be paralyzed the rest of his life or when Jayson Williams blasts his limo driver in the chest with a shotgun, etc, etc. But god forbid something should happen to Snoopy or Lassie and all hell breaks loose.
That's my biggest gripe. Everyone overreacts as if dogfighting and cruelty and torturing animals is the worst crime ever. This was a misdemeanor just a few years ago. Rape, murder (of people), abuse etc are all worse crimes because they're crimes against other people. We all know Vick is guilty, but when people mention Kobe, or Ray Lewis they weren't guilty of their initial charge. Lewis was found guilty of obstruction of justice, not his initial murder charge. Kobe cheated on his wife, not an actual federal crime. I just think the sensationalism of this story is what drives peoples opinions.
Why would any other team want to take a shot with Vick? Troublemaker who is vastly overated by many NFL fans. A Mediocre passer. Athletic and fast, that's true but his throwing is off though. Doesn't deserve or even worth a 2nd chance IMO.
I kind of see what you are saying, but I don't think this story has been any bigger than cases involved that you are saying when it comes to direct player to death involvement. Vick admitted his guilt and will go to jail. None of the others went to jail and came back to play. - The Kobe rape story was huge on all the news channels all of the time. This story wasn't on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc.. like Kobe was. - Ray Lewis & Pac Man weren't directly the ones involved in deaths. Vick might be. Animals or not. - The Jayson Williams thing was huge here. Of course, I live in NJ so that might have mattered, but at the same time it was obvious that it wasn't an intentional murder. It's not like this case has been bigger than OJ and crap, but my point is that I can not see any team wanting to support him and add him to their team after he admitted his guilt. It would put a black eye on their franchise. I don't see any owner giving a green light to allow their GM thinking that it's a wise decision. Especially since he isn't good enough to allow it.
After he was caught with underagers in a hot tub, the Packers released TE Mark Chmura. Dunno if he was banned or suspended from the league, but he never came back to the NFL
