Michael Young has accepted a trade to the Philadelphia Phillies, who will ship right-handed reliever Josh Lindblom and minor league righty Lisalverto Bonilla to the Rangers to complete the deal, according to a source. The deal gives Young an opportunity to play more and it gives the Rangers another bullpen candidate. Young had a no-trade clause and needed to waive it to get the deal done. A source said Thursday that the Rangers were going to have to pay at least half of Young's $16 million 2013 salary to complete the deal. Young will receive $1.2 million in "benefits" in exchange for waiving his no-trade clause, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. ESPN.com
Before today, the Rangers thought the money they saved in dealing Young to Philly could be used to land Greinke. That was before the news broke about him maybe going to the Dodgers.
^^^ bj upton says hi not a bad move and not a blockbuster. stop gap till the kid in the monors is ready and young is better than franzen. gave up nothing really to get him and the rangers are paying $10mil of his salary. now go get hamilton cause his price drops every day he isnt signed.
Hopefully he can have a decent bounce back season instead of being finished. I wish he was better defensively.
yeah the defense to me is the biggest concern here but the team needed to get another good bat in the line-up that doesnt strike out a ton. line-up thoughts ? i think we may see this because amaro will tell chalie to drop rollins out of the lead-off spot. cf - revere ss- rollins 2b - utley 1b - howard 3b - young rf - brown/mayberry lf - ruff c - ruiz (or whoever is catching to start) pitcher
id be ok with that. whoever gives howard more protection. of course that changes altogether if somehow hamilton lands here.
Hamilton is a nice thought...I just feel like that wont happen...here's to hoping I'm more than wrong.
Even though the middle of the lineup would be packed with lefties, without picking up Hamilton I don't have much hope for this team to be serious contenders next year. I don't think Chase and Ryan are ever going to be who they were.
