Browns president Mike Holmgren tells the Plain Dealer he isn't a huge fan of Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen. "I wish I liked [Clausen] more," Holmgren tells the newspaper. "You know how you have a type of player that you like? It's not scientific. People like him a lot. He'll go high. But it would be hard for me [to take him]." Holmgren wants to draft a quarterback, but he tells the Plain Dealer he isn't going to use his second-round pick on one. Cleveland also has the seventh overall pick. Source: SportingNews.com
Well, Holmgren better do something at QB for the long term future because they don't have a long term future QB under contract right now. If he doesn't take Jimmy Clausen, maybe Colt McCoy?
With this draft, better options for the Browns are addressing other needs first, and drafting a QB in rounds 3-5. I expect us to take Lefevour in the 3rd, he's the kid of guy who could be very good given enough time behind a vet.
Holmgren is pretty upfront with team needs and direction and whatnot. I've sat through years of it. He likes Seneca and thinks he can start in the NFL. He believes 100% in his West Coast offense. He will never *NEVER* draft a player that doesn't fit his offensive scheme. Apparently, he doesn't think Clausen has the Holmgren-factor. That's fine, he's still the #1 QB prospect, but if he doesn't fit Mike Holmgren's scheme, he won't be a Brown, even if he's available in the third round.
What a nice guy Holmgren is... giving us insight into his thoughts on prospects. I don't believe a damn word of anything a GM or coach says about these guys until the Mr Irrelevant has been picked.
I believe Holmgreen, this melon farmer doesn't bullcrap. Lefevour I believe will be the pick and whoever does better Wallace or Delhomme will be the placeholder.
I can already see the headline of the article i don't want to read all offseason if we draft another quarterback from Notre Dame right now.
