Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson smashed his helmet into Locker’s upper torso and as he fell toward the turf, linebacker Quinton Coples leaned in and gave him another shot. On Monday, coach Mike Munchak called both hits “unnecessary†and said he spoke to the NFL about them. “The first one dropped his helmet into him and unloaded on him,†Munchak said. “You’re supposed to pull back on him when you’re late. He didn’t. The second one was totally unnecessary.†“Football is football and guys are going to get hurt,†Munchak said. “But you’re hoping you can keep from avoiding things that maybe shouldn’t have happened. That’s emotional because we lost someone we feel is a big part of this team and this offense, and that makes it hard.†Source: The Tennessean SteveRobWhatever's Take: The hit I have a problem with is Coples' hit. His hit was late and was the one that caused the injury. The initial shot from Wilkerson wasn't anything I'd expect a fine for. Coples could have let up and went for the hit instead. Being a Titans fan, I am more than worried with how this will affect the team. They are 4-1 right now but are facing KC, Seattle and San Francisco in the next three weeks. They could fall to the middle of the pack quick and Ryan Fitzpatrick has yet to do anything to make me feel good about the team's chances with him under center against good competition.
