Tampa Bay Rays' Evan Longoria could certainly qualify as baseball's most valuable asset

You want value? Including options, the Rays have Longoria signed for the next seven years at $43.45 million. To put that in perspective, the Yankees will pay Alex Rodriguez $166 million during that time. A-Rod will be 41 by 2016. Longoria will be 31.

Not posting this as a homer just wondering what you guys think. I had no idea the Rays locked him up for so long for so little money.

We signed up Zach Grienke pretty cheap compared to market value.

Agreed, but pitchers are a totally different animal all together.

What is the average salary of the top 5 3rd baseman? He's definitely top 5 at that position, it would be interesting to see how he stacks up to his peer group.

Maybe, but locked up for 7 years? That's crazy.

Longoria needs to cut down on his stikeouts.
