Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd will not have to leave the Orlando Summer League later this week to appear in court for a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated last summer, his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., told ESPNNewYork.com.

"The next date we're looking at is July 16," Burke told ESPNNewYork.com.

Kidd was scheduled to appear in Southampton Town Court on Thursday, but Burke said that no appearance is necessary.

Kidd made his Nets coaching debut Sunday in the summer league, and was called for his first technical foul in Brooklyn's 76-67 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

The Nets also have summer league games on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

"It's a legal matter, and we'll let the legal process play itself out," Kidd said recently.
