The NFL announced Thursday a new schedule of regional combines that will occur around the time of the league's major combine in Indianapolis before the 2012 NFL draft. All told, the league plans to host 8 such events for hopeful collegiate players, beginning Jan. 28 in Los Angeles. Three sorts of players will be able to take advantage of the new format, according to the league. They are: Players eligible for the 2012 NFL Draft but not attending the National Scouting Combine, players with college playing experience who want to gauge their pro potential and players with some pro playing experience, but who have been out of the game for a period of time. The league also noted that, "players that attend an NFL Regional Combine may be invited to attend the NFL Super Regional Combine which will be held at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on March 30-31, 2012...Players must attend an NFL Regional Combine in order to become eligible for invitation to the NFL Super Regional Combine."
