Concerned about concussions, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league will keep looking for ways to make the game safer. Speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation" hours before the Super Bowl, he didn't rule out the idea of banning the three-point stance for linemen to reduce the ferocity of collisions at the line of scrimmage. While science is still trying to determine the long-term effects of concussions, Goodell said, the league has made progress in increasing awareness about the severity of such injuries. It's going to be flag football in full pads by the end of this decade. I understand the league wanting to minimize injuries, but this is FOOTBALL. Contact is part of the game and injuries are inevitable, every football player at every level of the game knew that when they signed up. Nobody is forcing these players to go out and play and risk injury. I can understand the major rule changes in the early 1900's when people were getting literally killed on a regular basis, but now...you're just fixing something that ain't broke. Goodell is REALLY starting to piss me off.
I'll take the 2010 minimum salary of 325,000 and the risk that goes with it. No one is forcing these guys to play this game.
