NFL general counsel Jeff Pash says he expects independent neurological consultants to be on sidelines during games next season to help diagnose and treat concussions.

Speaking at a pre-Super Bowl news conference Thursday, Pash explained that the doctors would not be paid by the clubs or hired as team physicians. There could be more than one neurologist assigned to each team to divide home and road games.

Pash said "details need to be worked through" with the NFL Players Association.

The NFL is facing concussion-related lawsuits from thousands of former players.

It actually might help...certainly won't see guys going back in games without thorough evaluations...

With the link between football and all these brain problems established, the least the league can do is pay to have the best kind of doctors available immediately..

I believe the teams brought those in. These "new ones" will be independent.

Listen a neurologist honestly can't make a better evaluation of a player any better than a doctor can on the field if the player has a concussion or not.
