On the heels of John York's offer Michael Crabtree, Yahoo! Sports reached out to highly placed personnel men from seven NFL teams, polling them on whether they'd support the establishment of draft pick protection. The answer, a resounding no, with all seven men coming out strongly against the idea. An NFC G.M. said the Niners simply should have known better given Crabtree's diva act leading up to the draft and the history of contentious negotiations in which his agent, Eugene Parker, has been involved.

I agree that the Niners probably should have known what they were getting in to,but still. They spent a first round pick to acquire his services, they should be entitled to his rights as an NFL player.

This kid needs to be made an example of. It's a privilege to play. Sure you can make millions doing it, but show some awareness to the fact that there is no guarantee that the talent shown in college doesn't always translate right away to the Pros, if at all. Ridiculous.

It's not even about his awesomeness in college, he thinks he deserves more money because mock drafts said so....wtf Sherlock???

While Crabtree's actions deserve a resounding kick in the ass, I'm still having a hard time feeling any sympathy for the owners in this.

Oh, I fully agree. It's not like he didn't scream headcase from the get go. Live and Learn I guess. LOL. Glad the Steelers don't usually take part in this heckery usually.

I'm a 49er fan and honestly even I don't think they are looking for sympathy, but let this be a lesson for later drafts, pass on headcases with known greedy mutha freaking agents like Parker.

This is going to end up costing him... Time to grow a pair, fire your agent, and sign for the league min. in order to re-build your rep.

It's not that I think they're looking for sympathy, Sweets. I just think in the race to make the most money, owners have more & more been throwing caution to the wind. In that, they made their bed, now lie in it.

I miss the old days when only Al Davis was crazy enough to chase the goofballs...

It was a warning, but most teams offices think they can handle headcases. In reality, only few actually can.

The 49ers are the ones who decided to keep freaking that chicken. Now they have to deal with the consequences.

It's yahoo asking the question not the 49ers wanting something in return for this debacle.

One positive: Parker's commission on this sound advice = $0.00

Eugene isn't the one telling Crabtree to sit out the season.
