At a time when rumors are surfacing that the absence of an extension for NBC's Sunday Night Football package beyond 2011 could open the door for the likes of Comcast's Versus network, Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that talks have commenced regarding a new deal between the NFL and NBC. As we've previously explained, an extension likely didn't occur in conjunction with the recent extensions involving CBS and FOX because those two deals were needed in order to pave the way for the inclusion of the Red Zone Channel on Comcast and other cable systems.
