Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was tipping the owners' hands when he hinted that the owners would opt out of supplemental revenue sharing. It appears that the revenue sharing that helps low budget teams may be on its way out, as owners are arguing that this rule has applied to capped seasons, however since the NFL may be uncapped next season it should be removed. i really really really don't like where this is heading.......... is the nfl going to become mlb where the teams in the northeast and then a few other big markets have all of the money and all of the players? please tell me it aint so ..................... :icon_cry:
It's happened according to Mort: NFL to pull plug on $100 million revenue-sharing program - ESPN I'm just astounded how the majority of owners believe this is the best thing for the league. Half the league will be crippled.
If you thought Jacksonville's lack of funds screwed them over before..... Jacksonville and Buffalo will soon be moving if this is the case.
A year or even a few years won't matter much but if revenue sharing doesn't come back the league will suck within 10 years
eh, if revenue sharing is done for good, we will start seeing major separation in 2-3 years as guy's contracts expire and all the best players go to the same 5-10 richest teams. if we think there are a lot of crappy teams this year in the nfl, we haven't seen anything yet .................. we may have 6 or 7 teams finish this season with 4 or less wins ............... in a few years, without revenue sharing, those numbers would probably double and the amount of uncompetitive games would make most nfl games unwatchable. 2/3 of the league would have trouble selling out their stadium, just like in baseball and most of the league would just become practice squads for the top teams. scary stuff ...............................
I'm sure Jerry is one of the biggest proponents for getting rid of revenue sharing, I agree with pretty much everything that has been said here - its a horrible idea and it would turn ALOT of people off of the league.
They still share a majority of the Revenues (6.5 billion) this is the supplemental pool (helps the bottom 3rd of the league). Basically now there won't be a spending floor, so we might see some fire sales. Goodell better not heck everything up, once you give it up, I doubt we'll ever see it brought back, the powerful teams will resist (ala MLB).
FA has already done that. This might be me reading too much into things but the NFLPA does not seem to want to let this happen. I wonder if the owners are not using this as a way to help get a rookie cap in. I also have read that there still would be sharing but not on the same scale.
They don't want it to happen because it'd remove the salary floor, meaning teams would be free to spend as little as possible. Which will most likely mean less money will be spent, and if less money is spent that's less for the players.
