ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio is reporting that new NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith could decide to attack the issue of contact in offseason minicamps which is not allowed under the current collective bargaining agreement. In the past, the union has looked the other way on this open secret because some contact during the underwear practices results in less intense full-pads training camp practices. But with the NFL now trying to create negotiating points for the coming round of labor negotiations, Smith could decide to crack down on offseason workouts for the sole reason of forcing the NFL to make concessions at the bargaining table in order to secure the ability under the terms of the CBA to engage in limited contact during minicamps and other offseason drills.
