Two weeks ago, Mac's Football Blog took an in-depth look at the salaries of the 256 players on NFL practice squads. Typically these players earn $5,200 per week, but in some cases, a team may want to keep that player from signing with another team's practice squad, like a division rival, and will pay that player at an increased weekly rate. In the first review of NFLPA salary data, there were 14 players receiving an increased salary, including four of the eight players on the New England Patriots' practice squad. Not surprisingly, the Denver Broncos are emulating the Patriots, and now have three players earning increased practice squad salaries. The Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers each have two practice squad players earning more than the $5,200 per week salary, while the New Orleans Saints have one.
