    86WARD -

Last month, Alabama coach Nick Saban had an idea for dealing with the problem of agents who pay college football players. "Let's just throw the NFL out," Saban said. Apparently, he has. Multiple league source tell us that Saban has advised multiple (but perhaps not all) NFL teams that their scouts are not welcome on campus to view practices, until further notice. There's talk that Saban may open the doors on a limited basis. Currently, August 18 has been identified as one of the potential dates

Not a bad idea, I don't really care for Saban, and I know that they're going to be talking about this tomorrow morning where I intern at (can't wait for the Bama fans to call in talking bout how NFL is scared of Saban), but I really think this is a good way to keep them outta their hair for a while

Throwing these teams out of practice will do absolutely nothing to curtail the agent problem.

It hurts his players more than not by not letting the NFL scouts watch their players live...

Exactly Ward. I highly doubt the scouts are going to go up to a player on the practice field with a proposal. That would take brass balls. They are doing this stuff while the kids are away from all the eyes of the university.

    Agreed.

So, what exactly have they accomplished? So, the scouts or agents can't have access to the kids on the athletic field. They'll just wait until the kids get away from the school.

These idiots in the NCAA don't see how hypocritical they are? Having all these rules against the kids getting money outside of the free education? All the while making billions on the same kids, and they do exactly the same things when recruiting these kids out of high school?

    Pathetic.

Good thing a money grubbing tramp doesn't get to decide which people who like to throw money around get in to see his players and when they get to see them.

yea I agree with you. But it also does keep the players so they dont keep worrying about when a nfl scout is there watching them.

    This.

Playing with fire here. You keep scouts who represent teams willing to pay millions to your players out of practice, they get to see a little less of those guys, they go to different schools and look at other players. It's your boys that lose.

So you mean it keeps the players from trying just a little bit harder in practice?

This all stemmed from comment made about agents. Anyone remember about a month ago, when Saban called agents who attract college players a pimp? Schools get punished, players sort of get punished, the agent gets no punishment. Saban is hoping that this will encourage the NFL to enforce tighter control of it's agents, and keep them off of college campuses.

    Amen...

& I'd agree that this could be a noble attempt to meet those ends...

but we're talking about Saban here. It would take shackles & a red hot branding iron to possibly say that I thought Saban had that intent.

    More about the attention/press IMO...
