The Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching search has been quiet the last few days but on Sunday night a potentially earth-shaking report emerged that has Oregon Ducks coach Chip Kelly leaving his gig in Eugene to take a job with the Bucs. That report comes from KGW Sports' Michael Berk who says that Kelly is "working to finalize a deal that would make him head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs." Berk adds that Kelly will "make the jump" if he can "come to terms on a contract," so let's hold the horses on assuming that this is a done deal, at least for now. Kelly became the offensive coordinator for Oregon in 2007 and served in that position until head coach Mike Bellotti became the school's athletic director and Kelly took over as head coach. He's won the PAC-10 Coach of the Year award twice and made a BCS bowl the past two seasons, in large part thanks to his high-powered spread offense that's piled up points for the Ducks since he came to Eugene.

wow, this is horrible. dude is nowhere near ready for nfl head coach. never played or coached in any capacity in the nfl.

my guess is that he will be the next petrino or saban and immediately run back to college football after a year or 2 in the big boy league.

I don't understand why these dudes ruin such good things. This is why there will never be another Joe Paterno. No Consistency or Loyalty from a Coach to their program.

Bad call Bucs. This guy's scheme has no place on an NFL field. Some guys are just meant to be college coaches, and some are meant for the NFL. See Saban, Petrino, etc as mentioned before.

I'll give the guy a chance, doesn't mean I expect much though.

  8. One reason why he got this job: Jim Harbaugh

well, the difference between jim harbaugh and chip kelly is that harbaugh has years of experience playing in the nfl. he's familiar with the league and how the game is different.

chip kelly hasn't had a cup of coffee in any capacity and would be eaten alive in a big boy league (see saban and petrino).

  10. I made that reference to point out Harbaugh's instant success as an NFL head coach may have promoted the Bucs to make a hire within the college ranks of their own.

But yeah, Harbaugh played 15 years as an NFL QB and spent a couple of seasons with the Raiders as a QB coach before leaving for the college ranks.

Let's be honest, Oregon is facing sanctions and is leaving a sinking ship.

yes, i understood what you were saying. It just kind of proves that the Bucs front office is a real mess right now since they're just throwing darts at the wall for their next head coach, which is basically how i felt when they hired raheem a few years ago.
