Browns president Mike Holmgren stopped down to the media room for an informal press conference today to say goodbye and announce that Friday will be his last day on the job, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "I was done," he said. "I had already passed the baton." He said his on-the-field chat with Jerry Jones last week in Dallas did not hasten his departure. He said he called Jones beforehand and said it might be best if they didn't have their usual meet and greet in Dallas, but Jones encouraged him to come say hello. Holmgren reiterated that he's not sure what the future holds. "I honestly don't know if I'm going to go back to work right away or not, and I don't know if it will be in football," he said, adding that he and his wife Kathy have discussed working with a non-profit organization. Not sure if you're trying to make some kind of point or just a crapty, not funny joke Posted via Mobile Device
i dont think hes going to go back to head coaching but working in football in some way Posted via Mobile Device
Not sure what team would even want him to coach for them. Since he left Green Bay, he hasnt done much.
No, it was a legitimate question, because if you're trying to make a point, I don't get it. And if it was a joke, it sucked. Not to say there aren't funny jokes to be had on thr subject of child rape, but yours just wasn't funny and a pretty lame attempt. IMO. It could have nothing to do with the Browns and I'd say the same.
well, i agree that there are probably better choices out there with some young upcoming head coaches available but isn't holmgren the only head coach (or one of a few) to take a 2nd organization to a SB after winning one with his 1st team? holmgren got into trouble in seattle because he was trying to do everything and that's a major problem for every coach. they get power hungry and they take on too many roles.
I'm not so sure the game hasn't left him behind. Not to say hes wasn't a good coach. But I just don't think he fits in today's game. But I could be completely wrong.
Actually quite a few that I can think of have accomplished the feat... Vermeil, Shula, Parcells, Reeves...then Holmgren. So at the least, 5...
ah, ok ............. so it's 'No head coach has ever WON a SB with a 2nd team after winning one previously' .............. even still, taking 2 different organizations to a SB is no small feat
Yeah, not much. Just took a perennial cellar dwelling Seahawks team to the Super Bowl and turned a nobody third string qb into a probowler. No big deal.
