Owners, Players Discussing Appeal Process That Falls Outside Of Roger Goodell

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 4, 2011.

  1. The owners and players are discussing a plan that provides a process for player appeals that would fall outside the office of the commissioner following punishment by Roger Goodell for on-field violations, a league source has told Mike Freeman of CBS Sports. The league and owners are considering something called jointly hired appeals officers. They would be available to players who want to appeal any decision made by Goodell. Currently, Goodell is judge and jury when it comes to player punishment and any appeals are heard by Goodell. The players have been fighting for Goodell to lose some of his power over them and it appears that just might happen.

Why? It gives one person too much control.

This. With all the complaints about fines during his tenure as commish I'm shocked they didn't seek change in the new CBA.

I'm glad they didn't. We never would have got football back.
