In a borderline stunning move, safety Anthony Smith and rceiver Ruvell Martin were among the 18 players the Packers waived today. Here's the complete list: wide receiver Jake Allen, quarterback Brian Brohm, cornerback Trevor Ford, guard/tackle Andrew Hartline, wide receiver Kole Heckendorf, linebacker Danny Lansanah, running back Kregg Lumpkin, defensive end Alfred Malone, Martin, tackle Jamon Meredith, nose tackle Dean Muhtadi, linebacker Cyril Obiozor, cornerback Joe Porter, tackle Dane Randolph, Smith, running back Tyrell Sutton, defensive end Ronald Talley and nose tackle Anthony Toribio. Defensive end Justin Harrell (back), cornerback Pat Lee (knee), tight end Evan Moore (finger) and safety Charlie Peprah (knee) were placed on injured reserve. Source: Green Bay Press Gazette
I don't see how Anthony Smith can't catch on anywhere, he just needs to keep his mouth shut and focus on football. He has the size and skill set. Not to mention he can hit like a heckin diesel.
When you say you had him as a 2nd rounder, what do you mean specifically? a) You read a load of pre draft mocks that had him pegged as a 2nd rounder, so you just assumed that was where he graded out? or b) You in fact watched a lot of tape on South Carolina to really scout Meredith properly and watched enough game tape of other prospects so you could objectively place Meredith amongst the Top 64 players in the entire draft class?
Ruvell Martin is a huge surprise to me. He was part of the 'fantastic five'. He won't be unemployed long.
